Choosing rhinoplasty is a significant decision. Understanding what recovery looks like, week by week, helps you plan properly and arrive with realistic expectations.
The First 48 Hours
You will wake from surgery with a splint on your nose and mild swelling around your eyes. This is completely normal. Most patients describe the discomfort as pressure rather than pain, and it is well managed with the medication provided.
Rest with your head elevated. Avoid bending forward or lifting anything heavy. Breathing through your mouth is normal at this stage, your nasal passages will clear gradually.
Week One
Swelling peaks around days three to four, then begins to settle. Bruising under the eyes is common and typically fades by the end of the first week. The splint is removed at your one-week follow-up appointment, this is the moment most patients first see their new profile.
You are not seeing the final result yet. What you see at one week is roughly 60–70% of the final outcome.
Weeks Two to Four
Most patients return to desk work and light daily activity at two weeks. Social swelling, the puffiness visible to others, fades significantly. You can go outdoors comfortably, though sun protection on the nose is essential.
Avoid contact sports, glasses resting on the nose, and any activity with risk of impact.
Months Two to Six
The nose continues to refine slowly. The tip, which swells last, settles last. At three months you will see approximately 80–85% of your final result. At six months, the nose has reached its permanent shape.
Patients often tell us the result looks more natural than they expected, not dramatic, but quietly right.
A Note on Patience
Rhinoplasty rewards patience. The surgeons who achieve the most natural results operate conservatively and allow the tissue to settle on its own timeline. At Dr. Eren's clinic we schedule follow-up appointments at one week, one month, three months, and six months to monitor your progress at every stage.
